Boat tour is around 22 hours from the first day to the last day. It’s both a mode of transport and a cruise in the middle of the Amazon jungle. The adventure, wildlife and flora highlights await on the river banks of Manu, the Rio Madre De Dios and the Rio Palotoa rivers. It’s not just a ride, it’s an adventure!

Day 01: Cusco – Manu Cloud Forest – Posada Manu Rainforest

We travel through mountains and valleys and through picturesque Andean farms and villages to the “chulpas” of Ninamarca (a Pre-Incan Archeological Site of small tower like graves), later we pass through the quaint colonial town of Paucartambo (the folkloric Capital of Cusco). Then we ascend to Acjanaco pass 4,000m (13,123pies), the entrance Manu National Park. Then, descending through the cloud forest we will pass through different altitudes hosting different zones of flora and fauna. Here we begin to see the variety of wildlife and vegetation unsurpassed in the world: orchids, begonias, lichens and misty shrubs and gargantuan trees, incredible birdlife like quetzals, trogons, tangaras, toucans y Peru’s beautiful national bird the Cock of the Rock (Rupícola peruviana). And some primates like: wooly and the capuchin monkey.

Continuing in the minivan, we’ll reach the port of Atalaya where we can make last minute purchases and board our motorized river boat. After about 2 hours in the open waters of Alto Madre de Dios River, we’ll arrive to our lodge with shower.

Night at Posada Manu Rainforest.

Day 02: Posada Manu Rainforest – Casa Machiguenga

5:00 AM starts our river boat trip toward the Manu Reserved Zone, a natural Paradise! We’ll have breakfast onboard so we use every minute to spot wildlife. After about 4 hours traveling down current we arrive where Boca Manu River changes course, travelling up current to Rio Manu (Manu River). During this boat trip we have the best chance of spotting the elusive jaguar, foraging capybaras, and dozing caimans on the stone beaches; a multitude of birds: egrets and great herons fishing, macaws with their dazzling colors, toucans, eagles, and more (the guide will help you spot them!) Wildlife is unpredictable but with so much here, we’ll definitely have a great day!

Overnight at the rustic Casa Machiguenga.

Day 03: Casa Machiguenga – Cocha Salvador – Cocha Otorongo (oxbow lakes)

Leaving very early to board wooden catamarans at Salvador Oxbow Lake, where giant otters (Pteronura brasiliensis), a plethora of birds including the prehistoric hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazín), and 14 kinds of monkeys inhabit on trees. As we are deep in the jungle we can chance on many more.

Lunch break and then we’ll visit Otorongo Oxbow Lake, We climb the observation tower and wow at the lake and troupes of giant otters frolicking there. Black caimans cross from one side to the other or bask in the sun. Because it´s a magical place at night, we’ll have a night tour.

Day 04: Casa Machiguenga – Robles Tree House

We’ll get up very early to get every chance to see the elusive jaguar en route to the Boca Manu. We might also happen upon tapir, capybaras or peccaries on the banks of Manu River, or turtles straddling trunks, or caimans sunning on the shores. Once in Boca Manu, we leave the still waters for the turbulent Alto Madre De Dios River where we steer ahead to the Robles Tree House. Your guide will explain the area and point out wildlife and flora on the way.

Overnight at Robles Tree house

Day 05: Parrot Colpa - Trekking - Swimming

The Robles Ecological Reserve offers us the most important wildlife viewing activity of this tour to Manu at our private parrot colpa. (A collpa is a mineral rich clay wall that attracts animals, which need to eat there to get essential minerals.) At 5 a.m. we wake up and gather to watch the colpa from our hide at 5:30 a.m., the best time to catch the birds and animals feeding there. Parrots, parakeets, macaws (Aras), (sometimes in the hundreds) feed on clay since it counteracts the toxins that eat in their daily diet day through their food.

On our private reserve, we offer you hiking in pristine forests of bamboo and primary forests of gigantic trees, where we will go in search of life wild such as: peccaries, monkeys, Amazonian turtles, and birds. At nightfall we offer a night walk in search of: night active animals like: tapir, tarantulas, frogs, snakes, spiders, and night monkeys, among many others. It’s nature so we can be surprised at any moment by a magnificent sight!

Night at Robles Tree House

Day 06: Parrot Clay Lick – River Tubing

After our amazing night at the Hide, we’ll wake up early hike back through the jungle to take up watch on the river bank opposite the salt lick. With good conditions, we’ll be able to see parakeets, Green parrots, splendid macaws, and even Otters rolling past for their morning dose of nutrient rich clay.

After breakfast! Unique to our trip is river Tubing, which consists of gliding down a stretch of the river Palotoa with an inflated tire. Let yourself be guided by the river current for a stretch of 4 kilometers immersed in the sounds and sights of the Manu rain forest: an unforgettable part of our packages that we offer in our private Robles Ecological Reserve.

Overnight in comfort at Posada Manu Rainforest.

Day 07: Posada Manu Rainforest - Cusco

We leave the lodge after breakfast and head back to Cusco. The boat ride at this hour gives us multiple opportunities to see wildlife on the river. Back on the road from Antalya, we’ll make stops along the way and have a scenic lunch in nature. We’ll arrive back in Cusco around 6 PM and drop you at your hotel. Thank you for enjoying Manu with us!
